The main objective of Mental Blocks is to score as many points as possible by removing groups of blocks from the field. A group consists of blocks of the same color that are adjacent to each other. When you place your cursor over a group, all members will be highlighted. When you click, they will be removed. When a group of blocks is cleared, the blocks above will fall into the empty space and the spaces above will be filled by blocks sliding from the left.
Scoring
Score consists of 2 factors:
1. Total Point value of a block group
2. Speed of Move
The point value for a group increases based on number of blocks in the group and the level
number you are playing.
The point value for a group decreases with each tick of the move timer. The longer you take
to make a move, the fewer points you get for that move.
In the example above, removing the 4 yellow blocks at the top would produce more total
points than removing the 2 blue blocks at the top and then removing the 2 blue blocks at the
bottom.
In both cases 4 blocks were removed but the 4 yellow blocks would produce 1440 points but
each group of 2 blue blocks would produce only 360 points for a total of 720 points.
(Note: This example does not take into account the move timer.)
Bonus Points
Anytime you clear a level completely, you will receive Bonus points.
- Level 1 - 1000 pts.
- Level 2 - 1500 pts.
- Level 3 - 2000 pts.
- Level 4 - 2500 pts.
- Level ... and so on, adding 500 points with each new level.
Penalty Points
Anytime you fail to clear a level completely, you will have points deducted from your score
for each block left.
- Level 1 - 50 pts/block
- Level 2 - 100 pts/block
- Level 3 - 150 pts/block
- Level 4 - 200 pts/block
- Level ... and so on, adding 50 pts/block with each new level.
You will also be penalized if you take too long for a move. Once the move timer reaches zero, it will begin deducting points from your total score. It will continue deducting until you make a move.
The Classic 8x8 grid is the original blocks game. All levels are 8 block by 8 blocks. The first level starts out with 2 colors of blocks and new colors are added with each new level.
The 12x12 grid is similar to the Classic except all levels are 12 block by 12 blocks. The first level starts out with 2 colors of blocks and new colors are added with each new level.
The Variable Grid starts out with 8x8 on level 1, then increases to 9x9 on level 2, and continues to increase with each level until it reaches 12x12.
